Goodbye (and baise-moi.top is still functional)

To dispel notions people probably have from clicking on this: baise-moi.top is still going to be up. People have been nominated as new moderators and I transfered the vps over to a competent person. Zeke obviously has his own projects that he is working on, but he also is there to assist people as well.

In contrast, I am leaving for a number of reasons. The impetus was when someone informed me that within the last week, two people I knew years ago are getting canceled because of some vague association with me years ago. I don’t really understand most of it, but it seems to be “shipping” discourse, and it seems like people are trying to cause weird drama. This has obviously happened before, but when I realized I haven’t spoken to either person for two years, it did make me stop and think that it really has been a long time. People I knew five years ago have probably graduated from college. Some of them have probably fallen in love and have families now. Some of them are probably in graduate school. And some people are trapped in a time capsule, posting the same thing on some platform they used five years ago—including me. What started off as just doing some consequentialist argument for necrophilia has gone on way longer than I could have imagined.

The last year has been fun, though. When I first came to the fediverse, our section was moderately large, but there was constant conflict between “pro-c” and “anti-cs.” I thought it was kind of funny at first; yet, after all the instances died and this small section of fedi became smaller, I realized I didn’t really align with many of these groups. I am a Marxist who is a prison abolitionist. In a liberal society dominated by value, however, the best we can do is harm reduction. I am pro-needle exchanges, not because I am pro-drugs, but rather I want to reduce harm. In the future, hopefully, the notion of buying anything wouldn’t exist, and our labor power would be directly social; yet, despite these beliefs, in our current society, we must make decisions that aren’t solutions but merely reduce harm. I call my position the Dauve compromise.

For me, this is how I approach issues society is faced with. I do not believe there are “cures” for societal problems, and I would say a group acting on your attraction in a way that harms a child would constitute a societal problem, but rather certain policies that on average would do harm reduction. Lolicon is a prime example of something that may reduce harm, but I do believe that decriminalizing other materials would reduce harm in myriad ways.

A child who takes a picture of themselves and sends it to another has committed a crime in our society. If we want to reduce the amount of child porn in society, then that action must necessarily be a crime, but the end result is that 8-year-olds are on the sex registry. I contend this is what Zizek would refer to as objective violence, or some people may call structural violence. It is the omnipresent violence that is constantly occurring in the background. Although I do believe that, on an individual ethical level, at best such material is neutral depending on what it is, and is often extremely unethical, I do think, much like the war on drugs, it has led to an overall increase in societal harm in the guise of protection.

Now, this isn’t some well-thought-out argument for any specific policy, as that would take way more than a paragraph to lay out, and my opinion may change drastically with more research. It is, in contrast, an illustration of how I approach these topics. I would never argue seriously that pedophilia is good or that society ought to organize itself in a way that normalizes it. This is much different than how people on this side often approach the issue. In a future society, I have no idea what cultural changes would result in not organizing society around the production of value. I could make guesses, but since we cannot predict fluctuations in prices nor could Paul Krugman predict the impact of the internet (he disagrees), I don’t think those predictions would be accurate.

Instead, I just seek to create temporary autonomous zones (another funny reference), where people can be themselves. I made very small instances and tried to find people who were lonely and seemed like they would be happy being introduced to this side of the fediverse. It does make me happy that there are hundreds of people whose first instance was one of mine. I am also happy I was able to continue Lolicon’s Misskey instance after it was suspended, rather than the typical cycle of samsara. Actually, the cycle is probably more akin to a stock market followed by an endless recession. I am happy that I helped some younger people off Pawoo last year and brought them into a safer environment, often encouraging them to leave or go to Pawoo. It was nice to help some younger people start instances, and it is nice to see that idea has blossomed when people yelled at me initially.

I am well aware that, to most people outside this small section of the fediverse, this is no less insane than other pedi instances, and most probably wouldn’t see me promoting MAP captions and endless horny posting as “harm reduction.” The important thing, though, is it makes sense to me, and you can email me if you disagree. ^^

Overall, it was just nice to have an instance that wasn’t based around Twitter and Tumblr callout culture. I was planning on maybe just shutting it down at the end of the month, but I do feel like there isn’t currently a real alternative for people who just was to hornypost without the weird baggage that comes from certain discourses. I’m happy despite the chaos surrounding our instance that inside, we were pretty drama-free. People had a space to express themselves without judgment, and you didn’t have to be a “map.” People with all sorts of kinks felt welcomed here, and it wasn’t held in bondage by some weird Tumblr discourse.

Finally

This last year, as previously mentioned, was a lot of fun. I was extremely bored prior to coming to the fediverse, and some of the people I am closest to I met within the last year. It was nice to post about Dauve and have a small five-person account on some Ukrainian model enjoyer instance know the reference. After two years, I finally found someone to have a small ultra-left theory discussion with, and that just shows the diversity of Baise-Moi.

It has been really cool to see this side of pedi get more diverse and to have people with interesting backgrounds join. I’m glad that the former Imouto moderators and I agreed to make just a general “NSFW” instance rather than some “pedi instance” that argued about the age of consent or if “transage people can consent.” Not that those aren’t pressing concerns, but I feel like people needed to branch out a bit. I know “gooning” is controversial both inside and outside of pedi, but I do feel giving people an outlet to express their desires is beneficial and it’s a better alternative.

Feel free to contact me on Matrix if we are friends. I will be deleting all of my fediverse accounts, but obviously, the small number of people who are my friends will know how to reach me. I plan on working on Onion Federation as well and would be willing to help people set up Tor instances in the future (obviously, if you host anything bad, I won’t help).

Love you guys,

Rae
